After graduating from college, I committed myself to one year of service working for City Year Chicago, an education nonprofit that partners with low-income, high need Chicago Public Schools.

I worked as a Student Success Coach in the Austin neighborhood serving 25 fourth grade students. I provided academic, social, and emotional support while creating daily lesson plans for both math and English Language Arts.

I also served as the Social Media Coordinator at our partner CPS school. In this role, I was in charge of updating the Instagram page and creating a monthly digital newsletter, which you can access here

My direct supervisor was Patrick O'Mahoney.

For the Spring 2018 semester, I served as a Writing Research Intern at the Women's Resource Center of Winona. In this role, I specifically provided scholarly research on recent cases, statutory requirements for workplaces, located and collected relevant documents and data, and examined the intersectionality between sexual assault and sexual harassment.

  1. I developed my skills in analyzing information in a variety of formats to expand my knowledge

    1. By differentiating laws and guidelines for sexual harassment and assault in education settings and the workplace

    2. By analyzing recent and relevant data on the intersection and prevalence of sexual assaults committed in schools and workplaces

  2. I applied my researching and writing skills in a real world context

    1. By researching, analyzing, and writing about sexual violence outside an academic setting

    2. By reading and analyzing various forms of legal writing

    3. By writing literature reviews on sexual harassment policies and trainings to explain what kind of trainings are effective and not effective for officials (human resources, resource centers, schools, etc) to use

  3. I learned about laws and regulations

    1. By providing essential legal research and fact gathering concerning a wide range of sexual violence issues

    2. By reviewing and analyzing legislation, regulations, and other policy documents

My direct supervisor was Executive Director Diana Miller.

I served as an Advocacy and Policy Campus Coordinator for Know Your IX. Know Your IX is a youth-led organization that aims to empower students to end sexual and dating violence in their schools. In this role, I:
- Educated college and high school students in the United States about their legal rights to safe educations free from gender-based harms.
– Trained, organized, and supported student survivor activists in Title IX advocacy efforts.
– Advocated for policy change at the campus, state, and federal levels to ensure meaningful systemic action to end gender violence.

My manager was Sage Carson.

I served as a Marketing Fellow at Big Shoulders Fund, a Chicago nonprofit organization that invests more than $20 million annually in scholarship support and academic enrichment for students, operational improvements for schools, leadership development, and professional development for teachers at partnered Catholic schools in the city. In this position, tasks include website construction, audience analytics, social media content, public canvasing, and creating active marketing campaigns. My direct supervisor is Maria Montes De Oca, Marketing Director. I report to Lea Jesse, Patrons Program Director, and Elizabeth Tracy, School Marketing and Operations Associate Director (June 2017-August 2017).

At Erie Family Health Center, I served as the Marketing and Development intern. I learned how to use social media to reach out to patients about important information and deadlines, community events, and health-related topics. Additionally, I assisted the development department with alumni outreach for Erie's 60th anniversary. I also learned how to use HootSuite for various social networks, and Raiser's Edge NXT: A nonprofit fundraising software program that I used for donor-related tasks. My supervisor was Digital Marketing and Development Specialist Genevieve Salazar (May-August 2016).
For three consecutive summers (2012-2014), I interned at Lurie Children's Hospital, the 6th best children's hospital in the country. I had the wonderful opportunity of observing and shadowing Northwestern medical residents every week at the Uptown Clinic with patients ranging between 3 months and 10 years old. I sat in on surgical procedures, learned about how social workers interact with patients, and was mentored by Dr. Mariana Glusman, pediatrician and professor at Feinberg School of Medicine: Northwestern University. In partnership with Reach Out and Read-Illinois, I encouraged parents to read to their children and the importance of literacy, and helped patients with their reading skills. Additionally, I worked on small, short-term research projects at local Chicago universities with graduate students.

At Josephinum, I became the first student blogger for the high school to provide student perspective on student life. I wrote a monthly post for the high school, which was promoted on all social media platforms as an effort to reach 7th and 8th grade students. This resulted in various Sacred Heart Schools across the country to reach out to me via social media or snail mail to thank me for writing about what it's like to be a student at Josephinum. At recruiting events or open houses, prospective students, or their families, recognized my name and would talk about their favorite blog post and asked questions about the experience I have written about. During my end of my second year of blogging, I recruited students to give the blog additional voices and perspective for different grade levels. During my final year of blogging, I continued to be the head writer, and also became the editor for the underclassmen.

My supervisors were Marketing Coordinators Laura Hayes (2011-2013) and Lynda Pasteur (2013-2014).

Since my departure in 2014, the school blog has grown with a team of 7 writers and remained active as recently as 2017.

At the YMCA Chicago, I served as a Marketing and Advertising (Summer 2011) intern along with 15 other students. My primary role was to create social media campaigns to promote YMCA events to Chicago's youth.
